Student Proctorio Support

If you have any issues during your exam, please finish it to the best of your ability and then report any issues to your Instructor.

During exam you should use Proctorio Live Chat support (click on the shield icon in web browser for Live Chat access). 

  1. Install/Update Chrome - Get Google Chrome | How to update Chrome
  2. Install Proctorio Extension
    • Get Proctorio Chrome extension.
    • Click "Add to Chrome".
    • Some extensions will let you know if they need certain permissions or data.
    • To approve, click Add Proctorio extension.
  3. Uninstall Proctorio extension
    • On your computer, open Chrome.
    • At the top right, click on the 3 dots, then "More Tools -> Extensions".
    • On to the extension you want to remove, click Remove.
    • Confirm by clicking Remove.
      OR
    • Goto the Proctorio Chrome extension page.
    • Click "Remove from Chrome".
  4. Re-install Proctorio Extension
    • Uninstall the extension by following the steps in #3.
    • Then install the extension by following the steps in #2.

If you are receiving a warning message about insufficient RAM while attempting a Proctorio assessment, the following steps may help free up RAM on your computer:

  • Temporarily disable any antivirus software you have running before you start the Proctorio exam. It is recommended that you turn on your antivirus software immediately after you complete the Proctorio exam.
  • Disable any applications that start-up on your computer automatically:

Mac OS:

        1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
        2. Select your user account, then click Login Items at the top of the window.
        3. Remove a login item: Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click the Remove button below the list.

Windows OS:

        1. Right-click the Start button (or task bar), select Task Manager, then select the "Startup" tab. (If you don’t see the Startup tab, select More details.)
        2. Select the app you want to change, then select Disable so it doesn’t run.

 

  • Create and use a new Chrome Profile if you have a lot of extensions and customization installed.
    1. On your computer, open Chrome.
    2. At the top right, click your Profile photo.
    3. Click Add.
    4.  Choose a name and a photo.
    5. Click Add. A new window will open.
    6. Click [Get Started].
    7. Click [Skip].
    8. Click [Skip] again.
    9. When prompted to sign into Chrome to turn on synching, click "No Thanks".
      • Note: It is very important that you do NOT sync your new blank profile with your Google account as this will keep it lightweight and ensure it uses minimal RAM.
    10.  Close all other open windows of Chrome you had open, apart from the new window that is open with your new profile.
    11. Install the Proctorio extension in your new profile via https://getproctorio.com/.
    12. Shutdown Chrome.
  • Restart your computer.
    • Do NOT open any other programs other than Chrome in one window.
    • Login to your Canvas course and take your Proctorio assessment.

  • Please continue to finish the exam to the best of your ability
  • If you lose connection, are logged out, or otherwise lose access to your exam please reload the tab. If this doesn’t restore access please restart Chrome.
  • Proctorio offers a live chat support option should you become completely stuck.
    • During an exam: click the shield icon in your web browser, then click Live Chat

  • After you have finished & submitted your exam, please contact your Instructor and provide them the details of the issue that occurred.
